When life hands you whey, make homemade ricotta!
When you get started with homemade dairy, you’re going to end up with a TON of whey on your hands! This begs the question: what to do with all of that whey??? The answer – make homemade ricotta of course! That’s right, don’t throw out that whey quite yet. You can make a delicious homemade ricotta cheese in only a few minutes.
I’ll raise my hand and admit that I’m guilty of having ZERO idea what to do with my leftover whey when I first started playing around with homemade dairy. And honestly, I may or may not have dumped a substantial amount down the drain… It honestly makes me a little sick to think of how much I wasted when there are so many amazing uses for whey!
I was first introduced to making homemade ricotta when reading posts on what to do with leftover whey. I saw that you can make ricotta cheese, and I was dumbfounded. It’s incredibly easy to make this ricotta cheese, and only takes a matter of minutes!
What you’ll need:
- Large stock pot
- Thermometer with pot clip – I like a digital so my readings are clear
- Cheese cloth or a linen dishtowel
Ingredients for homemade ricotta:
- Whey
- Acid such as lemon juice or vinegar
